Fifa World Cup 2010

Thenewmalcolm here, Nd of course I'm rooting for my home country Nigeria. I hope they can bring the cup back to africa but of course its a long shot.

More realistically I'm looking at brazil as the favorite. The reason? Dunga. As a defender he was relentless, savvy, and team oriented. His most important and controversial decision to date only reinforces my high opinion of him. Leaving Ronaldinho off of the cup squad shows that he is only concerned with winning. Not the notoriety of his team.

I felt Brazil's biggest mistake on the last world cup was not using Robinho enough. Instead going with the wildly popular but aging Ronaldo. Dunga's willingness to upset the established order only makes his squad more difficult to prepare for. This is why my money is on Brazil

Just my 2 cents

CNN: Crude still flows in Gulf despite cap on oil gusher. http://on.cnn.com/cw0a7r

If this was a corporation in another part of the world, you might see them go bankrupt in order to fix this as quickly as possible. Saving face is very important.....unless you're BP. They will go on operating as a company (their stock is still rediculously high today) and people will continue to profit from them. Honestly its hard for me to forget the BP workers who had nothing to do with this or their families who depend on those men and women.

I obviously respect what Blackberry has done in the past (I was an original Storm Owner) but the operating system just seems so dated. Its a more open platform than the iphone, but I can't help feeling like portions of the OS are too simple while others are far to dry and complex.

The future of Android?

A lot has happened in the last few months if your lucky enough to have a newer android phone.

For individuals who have gotten an android 2.1 update you've seen improved speed, an improved market, and access to much more stable applications.

The beauty of android's future is that the improvements to the user experience are not predicated on obtaining the latest update. The unprecedented level of system access to developers means that innovation need not come solely from google. When innovation does need to come from google, they have figured out that replacing one app or system portion at a time is just as effective (if not more so) as dropping a new Operating System every six months.

As handset owners with other OS's rely on the Operating System creators or device manufacturers to deliver innovation, android is pushed mainly by the needs of its users. The shortcomings of any one particlar android device actually become an opportunity for developers to create an application directly adressing consumer needs.

For example, the recently released DoubleTwist application was developed and distributed in response to user request for an "Itunes-like" sync application. Though android possesses the file system or "drag and drop" functionality (which most would agree is much more open and simpler to use) there are those consumers who like to actively sync theyre media to a PC. Android allows users to have that choice along with countless others.

True consumer motivation and innovation make the future of android you the singular User. It is not the desires or moral positionings of one or even a few privaledged men.

Its good to know I'm necessarily playing a large part in my own experience.

Juice Defender Free, Advanced task killer, Quick Settings (power program cocktail)

(is using all of this counter productive?)

OK so ,maybe what I'm running here could be considered overkill. What I'm wondering is if running juice defender (JDF) and task killer (ATK) simultaneously could be counter productive.

Obviously I've made sure that (jdf) is one of the tasks being ignored within the task killer. Unfortunately my methods have been rather unscientific in terms of monitoring the impact of the programs separately or together.

Additionally, since these programs are designed to maintain processing speed as well as battery power, can I expect improvement in benchmark testing?

What other programs would you recommend?

Recent Revelations Android 2.1

First of all I am a firm believer in knowing the facts before endorsing a product. So, having received the most recent OS version to date I can honestly say that Choosing an iphone 3GS over a Droid would be a serious step backwards in terms of current technological capability.

Though the CDMA Droid Does not do Overseas calling on VZW's Network you can get an unlocked phone and throw any sim in there you'd like. Yes there is a GSM version of the Droid going to AT&T. So Droid does all networks. But don't forget, voice + data requires a 3G signal, and we know that's hard to find on that other network.

Do we need to discuss being able to remove a battery as apposed to not being able to remove it? Or how about the fact the the Droid has better battery life regardless?

Do we need to discuss the smaller screen size, smaller screen resolution, smaller camera resolution, lack of flash with the iphone? How about that the Droid comes with "gorilla glass." Look that stuff up.

The physical keyboard is wonderful. Don't let its initial flatness fool you. As you use the keys they become more and more like a blackberry's.

The phone is not complicated. I admit I initially steered any non tech types toward the Eris as it was still android but I felt HTC did a lot of the Heavy lifting for you with their Sense UI interface. I was shocked to find they'd gotten the Droid anyway because of its noticeable durability and large screen size. They use their phones daily with no problems. I've never gotten a call saying "I don't understand how to do this."

I want a beta program not in my app store but available on the developers website. Done. Iphones can't do that.

My Droid transfers files effortlessly between my CPU and my PS3 with USB, with no applications needed. Iphone doesn't.

Iphone And Droid have the same major chip set (its true). Droid has a stand alone GPU on top of that. Bet you didn't know that. (similar to XBox and PS3...yeah droid is PS3)

The Dalvik Engine for android, which is not even in use yet, runs applications 3 times faster than current speeds. This again does not require a hardware update, only software. Your Droid will run these programs.

I've seen a Droid who's user wanted it to mimic the iphone UI. I've seen several that mimic HTC's Sense. I've even seen some windows mobile setups (believe it or not). Sweeter Home allowed me to design something like the new windows mobile 7 ..... 3 months ago. The iphone doesn't change after you buy it. Hell it has barely changed since conception.

I want my third party music program to run in the background while my navigation guides me. Done. Oh wait I forgot I'm using a third party keyboard to do one touch voice to text at the same time. Iphone definitely doesn't do that. Can you even use a third party keyboard with those? Some would say: who would want to? Those are the people who want you to stop asking questions and just buy.

Applications on the SD Card. Android 2.1 is the first step in terms of giving android phones the ability to run applications from the SD card. It has been confirmed on several occasions that new hardware will not be necessary and this hurdle will be cleared by software update. Droid runs apps off the SD Card. iphone doesn't have a removable one. If Yeyo (bought his droid 3 days ago) wanted to update to 64 gigs (like he told me he wanted to do last night) he'd need a whole new "idont." His roomate came in and pulled out his Iphone. After 5 minutes of him not contributing to the conversation he got up and left. That happens a lot now. Especially when you start talking about beta programs. To Iphone owners that means a "jailbroaken" or hacked phone. You're either all in that discussion or your out.

Now the most important part for all you app mongers. The new "portable app engine" will allow android phones to run Palm Pre and Iphone applications. Now how big is your app store?

Respect, Sports & Loyalty

most of you that are sports fans know the San Diego Chargers recently released their franchise's all-time leader in yards and touchdowns LaDanian Tomlinson. Though the Chargers' front office expressed a great deal of remorse and gratitude towards LaDanian one has to wonder; is the business in sports worth the moral sacrifice? Now let's not get too carried away Mr Tomlinson has made plenty of money with the Chargers, and if they had not chosen to cut him he would have stood to make an estimated $5million this upcoming season. But for a man that had done so much to bring credibility back to that franchise I think he deserved to stay as long as he wanted. They didn't have to necessarily play him as if he were still the L.T. of 2006, but they didn't have to treat him like a used condom either and throw him away after they had their fun.

The Chargers are not the only NFL franchise that has cut ties with a key part of their team's recent success. The Philadelphia Eagles recently released their versatile running back of the past 8 seasons Brian Westbrook. Though not on L.T.'s level in the"name recognition" department, Westbrook was just as important to the Eagles' success in the time he spent there since being drafted in the 3rd round from Villanova. Westbrook has also proven to be more injury-prone, and in fact last season suffered two concussions. Still you can argue that outside of Donovan McNabb, Westbrook has been the most productive member of that team.

This is not the first time a professional sports team has cast vital members to way-side in favor of saving a buck....or a few million. Just look at the massive contract dumping...oops I meant, "trading" that took place in the NBA leading up to it's trade deadline. Moving good and great players(Tracy McGrady) to make a run at other great players that will no doubt suffer the same fate when LeBron  James of 2023 comes out after completing his required 1yr in some lucky college's program. Pro sports have become such a money-maker that I am convinced alot of franchises don't even care about competing for their league's championship. The real champ is the owner that flips players like gymnast to fatten his own pockets. So the next time you turn to ESPN to watch your favorite player for your favorite team, remember this blog. And don't say I didn't warn you when next year your favorite player is playing for the rival team.

today's thoughts

gilbert arenas should have had a camera crew follow him to the contract negotiations...called it "oceans 1." Dammit even Danny Ocean didn't get 112 million....and that was fiction!

folks were devastated to find out Tracy Mcgrady's knee hurt last night.....really?

yesterday the motorola droid won smartphone, gadget, and gps device of the year at engadget.com. It's been ages since someone tried to defend the iphone in my presence. It must be like Iran's president trying to explain his holocaust theory. Now apple has removed 5000 apps for showing as much as a woman in a bathing suit, claiming they were getting complaints from parents......uh huh. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the app store opening in a predominantly muslim country at the same time. I'm all for tailoring to your audience but getting in the censorship business is dangerous.

On a serious note, Iran's President says they're a nuclear power. somebody needs to stop lyin to the somebody who needs to quit whisperin in that man's ear. Didn't you see What happened to hitler? Oh...that might not be a good analogy for this guy...

Your NBA?

I'm in my mid twenties. This is my NBA.

I often wish I was a little older so I could have understood more when jordan was playing.

It's terrible that I fully expect Kobe to fill that void. (then again I'm sure he expects it from himself)

Lebron still scares me. I still think he weighs 260.....and is 29 years old. Name me a sport you don't think he can play.... don't worry I'll wait.

Even this small space has been dominated by talk of "the greatest" and musings about two of the "the greats," but guys my age talk about so many players cause the talent level is so high. Will it continue? Or am I doomed to witness the decline? Having a little Deja vu?

I'm in my mid twenties. This is my NBA. how's it so different from my fathers?
